Bluff BC teams progress through PN fours knock-out stages

News on the next round of the Port Natal pairs is that the competition will resume on 19 November.

THIS weekend saw the start of the Port Natal fours championships for men and women.

On Sunday teams played three games on a round robin basis, and the winners will now progress to the knock-out stages.

Last year in this tournament, Bluff Bowling Club’s team of Robert Mhlongo, Greg Dorrofield, Jorge Santos and Noel Morel were the overall winners and the club is pleased they have successfully made it through to knock-out stage again this year. The club wishes them good bowling and hopefully they can be victorious in defense of their title. One women’s team has also progressed and June Foster, Janice Rodgers, Dawn Spack and Phyllis Maritz are also sent good bowling wishes from the club.

On Friday night neither the attendance draw nor the lotto were won, so both jackpots continue to grow.

In club competitions on Saturday, Lilah Nel and Ronel Morel beat Daphne Reinhardt and Sarie Bisset in the final of the women’s nominated pairs. In mixed nominated pairs Kurt and Dawn Spack beat Steve Baker and Kitty Schaffer, while Eddie Human and Jay Retief beat Dudley Dorrofield and June Foster.

Berea Bowling Club hosts an annual novice pairs competition, and so far two Bluff teams are still in the running. Harvey Simpkins and Chad Wilson being the one team and Deon Els and Ryan Warren the other. Good bowling to them, and may they gain a lot of experience.

The first weekend of November has for many years been on the district calendar as the Bluff women’s tournament. This is a highly popular event, with many sponsors being involved and a lot of effort on the club’s behalf. Women from around the district enjoy the weekend at the Bluff and many request that their names be put down well in advance. This year there was almost a disaster, but thanks to the intervention of Dudley Dorrofield on the women’s behalf, the tournament will go ahead as planned.

News on the next round of the Port Natal pairs is that the competition will resume on 19 November. Club competitions for next week have been posted but will be subject to Port Natal fours results.

News from England is that Norman Robinson has bought a set of bowls and has joined a bowling club. No-one is sure how much outdoor bowls he will be playing, but it’s a start. Both him and Liz send best wishes to all, they are well and settled.
