Rambers hikers to explore Phezulu

The turn-off for the reserve is approximately 12.5km from the N2 (Park Rynie/ Umzinto t/off) and the entrance gate is a further 6km.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club hosts a new, members only hike through the beautiful Phezulu Safari Park on Saturday, 28 January.

Members will enjoy drinks afterwards at the restaurant. The entrance fee is R50 per person. Meet and park at the earlier time of 1.30pm at Phezulu Safari Park (5 Old Main Road, Botha’s Hill). This hike of about 8km is graded two, moderate.

On Sunday, 29 January hikers will explore Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve. Call hike leader Stella Wells on 078-319-8979.

This reserve, situated about 12km inland of Umzinto, has a wide variety of habitats including extensive grasslands, scarp forests, rivers, wetlands, cliff faces and dams. It provides an opportunity to see a wide range of wildlife and game. The turn-off for the reserve is about 12.5km from the N2 (Park Rynie/Umzinto turnoff) and the entrance gate is a further 6km along. Meet at 7am at Glenwood Village, 397 Che Guevara (ex-Moore) Road or at 8am at the reserve office and reception area. Petrol sharing costs R50 and the entrance fee is R30. This 15km hike is grade two to three.
