Scenic surrounds for Saturday hikers

A walk through to the top of this beautiful reserve with spectacular cliffs, river, forest and grassland.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club hikes through Palmiet Nature Reserve (Westville) on Saturday, 10 June.

Call hike leader Linda on 083-353-8319.

This walk will take hikers through to the top of this beautiful reserve with spectacular cliffs, river, forest and grassland. The reserve and river is named after the riverine plant Prionium serratum (Palmiet) which was formerly abundant in the area.

Hikers should meet at 1.45pm at the Palmiet Nature Reserve, off Old New Germany Road. Enjoy drinks afterwards at Waxy O’ Connors Pub and Grill. This 7km hike is graded two (moderate with a vertigo warning).

On Sunday, 11 June, hikers will conduct a Pietermaritzburg circular A grade two hike of about 18km in collaboration with Pietermaritzburg Hiking Club. Booking is essential. See the Durban Ramblers Hiking Club website for details.
