Two shots in men’s bowls win at Wentworth BC
Fridays Bluff Meat Supply men’s bowls was won by Chris Pozyn, Phil Hill and Norman Webster.

THE podium for the Bluff Meat Supply men’s bowls played at Wentworth Bowling Club on Friday, 22 September belonged to Kurt Spack, Butch Ellis and Troy Garland, who ended the morning’s bowls two shots ahead of Norman Moore, Dave Carroll and Claude Newton.
The sportsmen’s prize went to Ken Thomas, Des McAllister and Ron Parsonage.
Andy Cloete entered his name against the lucky number on the pork raffle sheet and Graham Bransby did the same on the beef roast sheet. Albert van Niekerk and Tomcat Cavanagh shared the spoils from the first 60/40 board and the Greg and Marge McGuiness kept it in the family when they won both prizes on the second board.
Greg Dorrofield and Jorge Santos once again demonstrated their supremacy in the Grand Rapid Big Jim pairs when they again claimed the top prize. First session was won by Spider Williams and Rob Armstrong and Johan Nel and Johan ‘JJ’ Jonker won second session. Ruth Petzer and Dawn Spack were winners on the first 60/40 board and Honey Kitchenbrand made a clean sweep on the second board by scooping both prizes. Deon Els left the club with the raffled roast in tow.
The clouds cleared on Wednesday morning to allow for the playing of the Chicken Shack pairs competition. Winner’s this month were Chris Pozyn and Margaret Walters. Tom Cloete and Bob Hayward potted the second prize and Terry Micholson and Johan Nel did enough work on the green to take the second session prize. JJ Jonker and Brian Smith shared the booty from the 60/40 board and Geanne Mitchell happily packed the raffled roast away before she left the club.
Unfortunately the inclement weather on Thursday morning forced the closure of the greens and the subsequent cancellation of the Rawsons Properties breakfast trips. Thanks are extended to those bowlers who supported the kitchen to help cover the prepared breakfast.

Sportsmen’s prize was awarded to Gerald C Royle, Robbie Carr and Dave Carroll Jnr. Tomcat Cavanagh and JJ Jonker were the winners on the first 60/40 board and Ken Koch and Gerald C Royle shared the prizes from the second board.
Finalists in the women’s veteran singles competition are Sharon de Kock and Eileen du Plessis. The date for the final will be posted this week. The women involved in the semi-final of the drawn trips should note these games will be played on Saturday, 7 October.
On Monday, 9 October the club will host a group from the Bluff TAFTA organisation to a game of fun bowls. Members who are willing to assist with the visitors on the greens are asked to let Cheryl know.
Any members of the community wishing to try their hand at the game of bowls are invited to attend the development bowls on a Wednesday afternoon. Bowls is a game for people of any age and is an activity that can be mastered from a young age.
