Bikers’ Ride4Hope revs support for Sunflower Fund

Much-needed funds raised from the event will enable The Sunflower Fund to create awareness, and to educate and recruit more blood stem cell donors.

CLOSE on 180 bikers took to the open road on Sunday, 1 October in support of the Sunflower Fund’s fifth annual Ride4Hope.

Held in association with RBS Yamaha and in conjunction with the KZN Motorcycle Federation (KZNMF), it was a beautiful Spring morning and bikers were treated to a hot cup of coffee at registration compliments of Wimpy and Torrador at the NPN Auto Centre in Pinetown.

En route to the Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market, motorcycle and outdoor enthusiasts from across KZN donned their commemorative 2017 cloth badges and brightly coloured Sunflower Topes. It was an inspirational sight as the biker convoy ascended Field’s Hill, all in the name of a worthy cause.

Prize-giving was filled with excitement and revelry as bikers enjoyed brunch and craft beer, while several lucky winners walked away with fantastic prizes including a raffle hamper valued at R1,700. DJ Martin van Tonder and Jeff Pharo of the well-known band, DV8 kept the crowd entertained. The trophy for the biggest club entry went to the Durban Harley Owners Group. PR and event specialist for the Sunflower Fund in Durban, Allison Ekstrand shared a heartfelt speech on the good work of the organisation and thanked those in attendance.

Much-needed funds raised from the event will enable the Sunflower Fund to create awareness, to educate and recruit more blood stem cell donors. The more donors on the registry, the more hope of life patients diagnosed with leukaemia have of finding their 1:100 000 donor match.

The Sunflower Fund thanks RBS Yamaha, KZNMF, MOTH Motorcycle Association, Durban Harley Owner’s Group, NPN Auto Centre Pinetown, Shongweni Farmers and Craft Market, Anna’s Glass Art, Embroider It @ Parklane, DJ Martin Vee, Jeff Pharo and all other associated sponsors and supporters.
