THE Wanderers Bowling Club bowling greens and staff took a much-needed rest during the Christmas and New Year break, with the exception of the third Annual Dan Paruk Invitational being played.
Jimmy Neill, who was the winning skip the last two years in a row, and his team of Mike Freeman and Trish Overington, lost at the first hurdle to Eric Smit, Jeff Bolt and Tommy Simpkins 10-4.
Robbie Carr, Bob Hayward and Barry Mansfield beat Clive Symons, Eric Swanson and Robbie Spiller 10-2 in a one-way first session game. With Clive’s side losing the second session 6-10 to Jimmy and his team, they secured the sportsman’s accolade.
The final produced a heated affair with Eric, Jeff and Tommy eventually out-bowling the stubborn trio of Robbie, Bob and Barry 11-5 to claim the trophy. Special thanks to Charmaine for sponsoring the snacks and to braai-masters Rob Philogene and Cliffy Waldeck for their excellent chef skills. Also special thanks to Samantha, whose kitchen provided the salads. Another great day was had by all.
The bowls committee reminds members of the AGM to be held on Saturday, 13 January at 5pm. There will be tabs in at 1pm.
Friday’s various meat pack winners were lamb pack – Justin Reid, rolled beef – Jeff Bolt, pork roast – Ralph Reynecke, rump – Richard Hendicott, chicken pack – Porky, chicken – Hennie.
The R600 snowball was not won as Bevan Funnell was not present. The Friday Lotto has been postponed until later in the month. The joker draw was yet another carry-over as Mitty Chelin could not locate the joker. The pool is now in the region of R30,500 with only 16 cards to go.
Thoughts and prayers are extended to those members on the recovery list, get well soon fellow Wanderers.
