PAUL White represented Durban Wanderers Bowling Club and Port Natal on the weekend in the SA Junior Masters Bowls Tournament.
Paul had a great weekend but unfortunately lost 19-21 to Stella Parks’ Wayne Roberts in the final.
Well done to them both.
The club held the men’s open singles on Saturday, where Dave Le Roux beat Arnie Harper in the first round but unfortunately lost to Richard Hendicott in the next round. Steve van Rooyen beat Jeff Bolt 21-6 and Chris Klopper beat Thomas Simpkins by the same margin. Lofty Cawthorne had an epic battle with eventual winner Error Pienaar 21-20 over 27 ends. Wonki beat Brian Deats 21-15 and Robbie Spiller beat Robin Grobler by the same margin. The next rounds are to be played this Saturday.
The men’s nominated pairs has also been boarded so put your names down. Sunday saw the breakfast trips take place with a smaller than usual group of 18 teams participating. Peter Prenger, Dave Faifer and Dave Matthews claimed the sportsman’s prize on a zero minus a pair of twos. First session went the way of Brian Smith, Robin de Gouveia and Dave Carroll on a 2+10. Second session went to Dave Le Roux, Lionel de la Ray and Aroo on a 2+11. Second overall went to Steve van Rooyen, Graham Funnell and Robbie Spiller on a 4+14, and overall winners were the Hillary side of Paddy O’Brien, Trevor Chislett and Rusty. Well done to all. Next month will see the breakfast trips clash with the annual Bluff tournament, and it will thus be postponed – contact Gary Moffat if you wish to enter a side. Members are reminded that subs are now due, so make arrangements to settle these.
Friday’s various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack – Troy Simpkins, beef roast – Mike Hussey, pork roast – Foxy, rump – Robin Grobler, chicken pack – Barbara Neill, Chicken – Thomas Simpkins.
The R500 snowball was a carry-over as Patrick McGlynn was not present. Friday’s lotto was also a carry-over.
Watch this space for details on when the next joker draw will begin.
Members and friends are reminded of the Valentine’s evening planned for Friday, 16 February. Direct enquiries to Samantha on 081-486-7039. Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment. The Valentine’s menu is limited to smash burgers with a choice of toppings, or a steak with mushroom sauce.
The club’s thoughts and prayers are extended to those members on the recovery list, get well soon fellow Wanderers.
