Youth encouraged to try their hand at bowls
Wentworth Bowling Club is encouraging young players to join them on the lawns for a game of bowls.
In keeping with the Bowls South Africa 1sport4life programme, the Wentworth Bowling Club is encouraging young players to join them on the lawns for a game of bowls.
The success of these efforts were evident on Sunday when four of the club’s young bowlers attended squad training for the Port Natal U30 squad. Congratulations to Bradley Claassens, Troy Garland and Trystan and Kearan Lassak for the invitation and flying the Wentworth flag.
Friday’s Tomasina Men’s Casual Bowls saw Matthew Lassak and Derek Stevens take top spot ahead of Phil Hill, newcomer Wayne Booysen and Rob Armstrong.
Bowlers in the Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim pairs competition couldn’t stop Gary Moffatt and Deon Els as they rampaged ahead to accumulate a resounding plus 29 to take the top spot, leaving Kevin and Brad Claassens in second place. The other father/ son combination of Matt and Kearan Lassak took home the second session prize.
The public holiday on Wednesday, 1 May has given the men’s competition secretary an opportunity to post their drawn trips competition. Play started at 9am and the draw took place at 8.30am. Supporters cheered the men on while they enjoyed a tasty treat from Fred’s Kitchen.
