The Bluff's Lara and Clinton Chant doubled as both an inspiration for young athletes as well as married couples.

The Chant’s had a great race day which saw Clinton with his personal best finishing time of 8:34 earning him a Bill Rowan medal. Lara’s personal time also improved vastly from the previous year, crossing the finish at 10:48. The two have been inseparable both in life and on the track since 2011. Clinton has always enjoyed running and the fitness lifestyle. It wasn’t long before Lara was bitten by the fitness bug and joined in on the race, competing in her first Comrades in 2013.

The pair is a part of Bluff Athletics Club and participated in the Iron Man Triathlon for their qualifier race. Their fitness regime entails training about six days a week, morning runs, cycling on their mountain bikes, eating clean as well as consulting a health and fitness coach.

Although Lara performs better during the downhill leg of the Comrades, she had the support of Clinton to help her get from Durban to the Pietermaritzburg finish line. Having competed eight times already, Clinton said, “We do this purely for the love of running and support one another. Couples that train together stay together. We’ll keep going until we have completed 10 Comrades Marathon races and many other sports goals together.”
