Bluff Marathon draws seasoned runners

The race serves as a Comrades Marathon qualifier for athletes who finished in less than 04:50. Runners from various provinces participated.

HUNDREDS of enthusiastic athletes from as far afield as Gauteng and other provinces participated in The Bluff Marathon recently.

The Bluff Marathon hosted 42.2km, 21.1km and 15km run. The route started at Fynnland Sports Club and took runners onto Marine Drive, past the Lighthouse, into Tara Road and back via Bluff Road.

The race serves as a Comrades Marathon qualifier for athletes who finished in less than 04:50. Local athletes also came out in numbers to raise the local flag high as they competed with their counterparts from other areas.

Runners from various provinces participated in the Bluff Marathon

Race organiser Lindsay Kapp described the race as a tough undulating route that had a bit of everything.

“The weather was thankfully slightly cooler with overcast conditions, albeit humid. Runners enjoyed well stocked water tables and friendly marshals enroute. Bluff Athletic Club members are passionate about running and we want to show visitors excellent hospitality when they visit our beautiful area. We believe this was achieved and exceeded in many ways,” she said.

Andre Louis and Curtis Kinsey participated in the Bluff Marathon.

The Marathon was won by Nkosingiphile Ntuli (male) in a time of 02:36:48, and Lisa Collett (female) in a time of 03:26:35.

Chairperson of the Bluff Athletic Club Vee Maharaj congratulated all the winners and those who participated in the run. “We are pleased to have hosted one of the stalwarts in the road running fraternity who participated for the first time in the Bluff Marathon,” said Maharaj.

Billy Robson received a medal after finishing the 42km run.

Stuart Mann from Johannesburg participated in the 42km run. Mann said the uphill and downhill run did not deter him from running this year’s marathon.
