Merewent football legends set to shine in Johannesburg

The Merewent Legends are taking their tour to Lenasia in Johnnesburg for a weekend of friendly football games.

FOOTBALL enthusiasts are up for a nostalgic treat as the Merewent Legends Football Tour travels to Lenasia, Johannesburg, for a weekend of sport, camaraderie and sporting heritage. Taking place from March 14 to 16 at the Robertsham Callies Grounds, the tour promises to reunite football legends once again on the pitch.

The tour brings together iconic players who once dominated Durban’s football fields. Dayalan Pillay, who is a respected football figure in the Durban South Region, coaches the Merewent Legends and has gathered a side of legends, most of whom featured in the non-racial professional league.

The weekend will be a keenly awaited contest between the Merewent Legends and the Lenasia Old Boys over 50 on March 15.  Adding to the excitement, a curtain-raiser match will pit the Lenasia Old Boys over 40 against Bayview FC, making way for an eventful day of high-quality football moments. The Merewent Legends will also face off against Randburg Legends FC in another exciting encounter, with a weekend of first-class football action in store.

Off the field, the tournament is a bittersweet reunion of former teammates, opponents and friends who have not seen each other in over a decade.
