Reigning World Cup champions Argentina beat the South African women's hockey team 4-1 after leading 2-0 at half-time at Kyocera Stadium in The Hague, the Netherlands on Sunday.

The Argentinians scored the opener in the 26th minute as Carla Rebecchi found the target after her team won a fifth penalty corner.

After the break, Noel Barrionuevo scored the third for Argentina, firing low into the corner of goal past the outstretched leg of South African keeper Anelle van Deventer, for a 3-0 lead in the 39th minute.

Argentina brought more joy to their fans when Rebecchi fired in their fourth goal in the 59th minute with a rasping shot that deflected off the keeper’s body into the net to make it 4-0.

With the match effectively ended as a contest, South Africa snatched a consolation goal two minutes later as Taryn Bright deflected the ball into the goal.
