As South Africans continue to be unimpressed at the latest move from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announcing an amended hyperandrogenism rule on Thursday that forces female athletes born with the condition to reduce their natural testosterone levels, Caster Semenya has responded without any explosive fanfare.
Her future as an elite middle-distance runner in doubt. Facing natural hormone restrictions if she intends to continue competing in middle-distance events, the world 800m champion could struggle to break the two-minute barrier in the near future, according to sports scientist Ross Tucker.
The SA sports minister has also slammed the amendment as diabolical.
Semenya, however, has remained true to her style of not making grand statements, though she has been dropping a series of tweets and retweets – including one from The Citizen’s athletics journalist Wesley Botton – that make her feelings right now clear.
