Marizanne Kapp pulls a ‘Kallis’ in England

One of the Proteas women's key players shows why she is regarded as one of the best all-rounders in the world.

Any remaining doubts over whether Marizanne Kapp is one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket would have been dispelled by her superb performances in the recently-concluded Women’s Cricket Super League in England.

South African star Kapp did as well as any of the international imports as she was the fourth-highest run-scorer in the T20 tournament, as well as finishing amongst the top-10 wicket-takers and having the fifth-best economy rate (4.94).

The 27-year-old’s efforts took her team, the Surrey Stars, to the semi-finals, where Kapp’s sensational new-ball burst of three wickets in four balls spread across her first two overs, reduced the Western Storm to 12 for three.

But the Surrey bowlers had no answer to the brilliance of great West Indian all-rounder Stafanie [correct!] Taylor, who steered the Western Storm to their target of 101 and into the final with her innings of 37 not out.

The Western Storm would go on to win the Super League as they beat the Southern Vipers by seven wickets in the final at the weekend.

While Kapp would have been in consideration for the player of the tournament award had there been one, fellow South Africans Lizelle Lee and Mignon du Preez also enjoyed very solid campaigns.

Lee, who was with Kapp in the Surrey Stars team, was among the top-10 run-scorers as well as having the eighth-best strike-rate (136.66), while Du Preez was eighth in the averages (30.66) for the runner-up Southern Vipers.
