TAB will pay out six places on the big race.

TOP WEIGHT. Amazing Strike hails from the in-form Alec Laird stable and has been allocated 61.5kg for the WSB Grand Heritage (Non-Black Type) over 1475m at the Vaal on Saturday 30 September.

A 28-strong runner line up will take their places for the R750,000 WSB Grand Heritage over 1475m at the Vaal on Saturday 30 September.

While the majority of runners are based on the Highveld, the final field includes Secret Captain from the KwaZulu-Natal yard of Duncan Howells, and Classify, a winner of five of his 10 starts, from Dorrie Sham’s Port Elizabeth stable.

Topping the weights with 61.5kg is Amazing Strike, a seven-time winner trained by Alec Laird yard. The six-year-old son of Ideal World is likely to be among the favourites because he is both course-and- distance suited.

Classify proved when running in the Grade 3 Spring Spree Stakes over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside track that the decision to bring him from the Eastern Cape was the right move. The son of Sail From Seattle, who only started racing this year as a five-year-old, was a fast-finishing fourth behind Will Pays, despite racing over a distance short of his best.

He has spent the last few weeks in the Mike de Kock yard and should give Francois Herholdt a decent ride.

De Kock saddles Elevated, who as a three-year-old in the Western Cape was not far behind the likes of Attenborough, Table Bay and William Longsword. He won on debut at Turffontein and is another who will have come on and should be a major factor.

The great thing about this race is that it gives horses with lower rating the opportunity to take on stronger opposition at favourable terms. In addition stakes, with a full field of 28 runners, stakes will be paid to the first 15 horses past the post. The winner will receive R406,250, second place gets R130,000, third place R65,000, fourth place R32,500, fi h place R16,250 while positions six to 15 will each get R10,000.

TAB has confirmed it will be paying out six places on the Grand Heritage race.
