Frikkie to fire at Flamingo Park

Frikkie took to the Flamingo Park sand like a camel to the desert and he looks set to notch up another victory at the track this afternoon.

He lines up in Race 8, a Pinnacle Stakes over 2200m, and he has form and the conditions in his favour. He is the best handicapped horse and has many of his opponents held on his last win at the course which makes him the stand-out bet on the card. He is a banker in all bets.

In April he contested the Northern Cape Stayers over the same course and distance and romped to a 5.25-length victory over Groovy News. He raced off a sand merit rating of 75 on that occasion and was penalised 4kg for the win.

It really has not made much of difference because as this is a stakes race his main danger, Royal Master, was beaten by seven lengths and they meet at level weights under the race conditions.

Karl Zechner rode him last time and is back aboard on this occasion.

There looks to be a similar situation in the other Pinnacle Stakes on the card, but Race 5 is over 1000m. Rock A Bye Baby is the best handicapped runner has a remarkable record of six wins and a short-head second in seven starts over the course and distance.

He would have been a second banker on the card except for the fact that John Vos has brought Ronnie Rocket from his Highveld yard. He has not raced on the sand so is an unknown quantity but has beaten better than he meets in this event so needs to be included in all bets.
