KZN juvenile feature form in spotlight
The form of the Grade 1 Premier's Champion Stakes over 1600m in August at Greyville will come under the spotlight in Race 7 at Durbanville today.

Trainer Mike Bass saddles Jet Air who finished a 4.30-length seventh behind Rabada in this MR 84 Handicap over 1400m. The yard must have a reasonable view of this son of Visionaire as he contested many of the Graded races for juveniles during the KwaZulu-Natal winter.
Sadly he failed to perform well in any of the features. Prior to the Champion Stakes he contested the Golden Horseshoe on Vodacom Durban July Day and ran 11.65 lengths behind Seventh Plain and then ran in the Listed Gatecrasher, where he was beaten 8.30 lengths by Rabada.
After that, and a race before the Champion Stakes, Jet Air contested a Juvenile Plate over 1600m at Scottsville and he coasted to victory, beating Mooghamir 2.25 lengths. In fairness, he drew out at No 11 in the Champion Stakes, a nightmare position to be in over 1600m at Greyville, and never got into the race. He did run on fairly well.
His form is hard to assess but he could be in need of a run and perhaps it could be better to look elsewhere for the winner. Eighth Wonder went down one length to Baritone over 1300m at Durbanville last time and with Sean Cormack up, he could well be the one to beat.
The Bass yard also saddle Marinaresco who could improve on his surprise victory over Psycho Syd last time. He has only run twice and could be better than his form suggests, especially with Grant van Niekerk up.
