Run like an impala

Having experience on this tight course is a nice advantage and she made her racing debut here in September.

After many race meetings at Kenilworth racing returns to Durbanville today and hopefully we can be ahead going into the lucky last race as Impala Lily may be worth a bet in the FM 76 Handicap over 1300m.

The Dean Kannemeyer-trained filly probably found the 1600m of her last start a bit far at this early stage of her career and after all she was only 4.35 lengths behind the promising Qing that day anyway.

Having experience on this tight course is a nice advantage and she made her racing debut here in September.

Impala Lily was caught out of her ground that day and did well to quicken up and finish a decent third to Miss Marker.

That form has held up.

Captain’s Dove put some modest efforts behind her when winning last month and it was her first run for trainer Brett Crawford so she clearly is the danger.

Some moderate sorts go to post for the opening event and French Captain could be best of them.

The three-year-old returns from a short break that saw him being gelded and he has some form like his third place behind Exploracy in September that is good enough to win this race.

Tell Me More is holding form well since blinkers were added and he could be the right one in Race 2, a Mr 70 handicap over 1000m but it is competitive and Lane Frost and Red Rex are clearly not out of it.

Secret Plan and Lost Without You have perhaps the best form in the book in Race 3 but deep draws may trouble both of them and it could pay to be with the once-raced Liberal Sally.

This filly is from the in-form Andre Nel yard, attracted betting support on debut and was doing her best work very late when fifth.

The step up in trip to 1400m will suit this filly but she might actually need even further so don’t risk the rent money.

Bora Bora disappointed in his first race after suffering the unkindest cut of all – gelding – but is clearly better than that run would suggest and his best run to date was achieved at this course so can bounce back and win Race 4, especially as the blinkers he wore last time have been removed.
