Tallow looks set to light up the course at Southwell

Emma Lavelle's inmate was a pre y good hurdler, but there is every chance he will be even be er over fences.

London – Tallow could be the class act on show at Southwell today as the William Haggastrained youngster seeks to follow up her success at Doncaster earlier this month.

The two-year-old fi lly wears the famous colours of Cheveley Park Stud and has already shown she has ability, ge ing off the mark at the second a empt a er a promising debut run at Redcar two weeks earlier. Tallow steps up to 1400m and although she is penalised for that success, her action suggests she will act on the Fibresand and the daughter of Kodiac looks like being hard to beat in division one of the 32Red Casino Novice Stakes. Gakku can land a deserved fi rst career triumph as she drops in grade for the Betway Casino Maiden Stakes.

Roger Varian’s three-year-old fi lly was a respectable fourth to Daphne in a Listed contest three weeks ago, in what was her second try in that company from just fi ve starts. Second in her three other races, Gakku obviously shows a bit at home and can surely open her account in a race of this nature. Swi Cedar was pu ing in his best work at the fi nish when third over 2000m at Leicester, to suggest going back up an extra 400m will be right up his street. David Evans’ seven-year-old, who is proven over the course and distance, can defy top weight in the Betway Handicap that opens the card. Full Irish is worth a li le bit of interest in a 4800m handicap chase at Lingfi eld.

Emma Lavelle’s inmate was a pre y good hurdler, but there is every chance he will be even be er over fences. Full Irish admi edly hardly set the world alight on his chasing debut at Warwick on 10 November, when he fi nished a well-beaten fourth behind Ozzie The Oscar. That was a good race, though, and everything he did over hurdles tends to suggest that 3200m trip was on the sharp side. With that pipe-opener in safekeeping, allied to this signifi cant ascent in distance, he should be an entirely diff erent proposition at Lingfi eld.

Cracking Find promises to be just that in the Betfred ‘Home Of Goals Galore’ Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Sedgefi eld. The six-year-old looks to have a bright future with trainer Sue Smith, a er making it third-time lucky over fences with a gutsy performance to make all at Newcastle earlier this month. Free Range can follow up his victory at Fakenham in the Betfred TV Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Hurdle. The successful point-to-pointer was making his debut under National Hunt rules and looks another winner for the Dan Skelton team.
