Prestigious world award for Kevin Anderson’s influential coach

By Sports Reporter

Kevin Anderson and Neville Godwin’s prosperous working relationship ended in the best possible manner after Godwin was named Coach-of-the-Year at the ATP World Tour awards on Thursday night.

South Africa’s leading tennis player had announced earlier this week that both men’s paths would split as they “wanted new challenges”.

The 42-year-old Godwin, who himself reached the world Top 100 as a player, has undoubtedly brought out the best in Anderson.

During the past four years, he’s guided him to a Top 10 ranking as well as helping Anderson reach the US Open final this year.

As a result, his peers simply couldn’t overlook Godwin’s influence anymore.

“I’m honoured to receive this award, especially since it was voted for by only my fellow coaches,” Godwin told the ATP Tour’s website.

“There were so many amazing stories on the tour this year, and I’m privileged to have been a part of it.”

Roger Federer was also a big winner on the night, bagging three awards.
