Stormers: The contrasting tales of two Damians after Loftus
One of them needs to be in more conversations over Springbok selection but the other one received a timely reality check.

When Damian de Allende was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul this past weekend at Loftus, the bad memories came flooding back.
It seemed like story of the past two years – a step forward then two steps back.
However, just over 15 minutes later the 26-year-old Stormers midfielder produced a moment of brilliance, skillfully breaking the line from just inside halfway and then launching a cheeky chip kick that was re-gathered.
Suddenly, after a first half where the Capetonians were pretty much nowhere, De Allende had kept his side in the game.
“He’s really keeping us ahead in some games,” said coach Robbie Fleck.
“He’s in great form.”
That’s no understatement.
De Allende broke the line four times in the eventual 23-33 loss, gathered 62 running metres and beat five defenders.
It’s been the story of his season to date, where he tops the standings for metres won and carries.
His defence has seen marked improvement.
“Damian’s had a few troubled years but he’s worked incredibly hard in the off-season. He’s in the best shape of his life and playing rugby like we all know he can,” said Fleck.
“He really is on song.”
In contrast, a young man who’s been hyped up recently – Damian Willemse – experienced the type of reality check that can only benefit his development.
The teenager wasn’t poor but his decision-making left much to be desired.
“He’s 19. We need to look after this kid,” said Fleck.
“There’s no doubt about his talent. He’s going to play many games for the Stormers and, I would like to think, the Springboks. But need to chill a bit around the hype. We just need to nurture his game-management and keep giving him confidence. There’s no doubt about what he can do.”
