Abraw unaware of Chiefs axing

A source close to the Togolese striker claims the player is unaware that Chiefs will let him go.

According to a Kaizer Chiefs statement released a week ago, Abraw, Siyanda Xulu, Lucky Baloyi and Lewis Macha’s contracts will be terminated by mutual consent, while Siphelele Mthembu’s contract will not be extended.

Enocent Mkhabela will also be let go, while Michelle Katsvairo will be loaned out for a season.

A source close to Abraw, however, claims that the Togolese striker is unaware that the club will let him go.

“Abraw is on holiday in Europe. Chiefs did not tell him prior to leaving that he will be released and no one from the club has contacted him yet, so he is in the dark,” the source told Phakaaathi.

“He was looking forward to contributing to the club’s success next season, and the news about his release has really caught him by surprise. But like I said, Chiefs have not contacted him yet, so he will report for preseason and take it from there,” added the source.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Chiefs were still negotiating with the released players for settlements before issuing them with their clearances.
