Bafana have a new coach – Jordaan

Stuart Baxter looks to have signed on as Bafana Bafana head coach, after South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan confirmed on Thursday that they finally have their man.

Jordaan would not mention Baxter by name, but told Phakaaathi: “We have our coach, it is finalised.”

The Safa president added that all that is left is to call a press conference to announce the new man, but that is being delayed because Safa CEO Dennis Mumble is at the CCMA, for the continuation of Shakes Mashaba’s hearing for wrongful dismissal.

Jordaan said that he instructed his colleagues to close the case with Mashaba as quickly as possible.

“I said to them they should settle the matter,” said Jordaan.

Baxter would only join Bafana once his current contract at SuperSport expires on July 1, meaning Owen Da Gama is likely to take charge of South Africa’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Nigeria in June.
