Five talking points from Absa Premiership and Caf games
It was a mixed bag of results for the South African teams playing in Caf competitions this past weekend.

Mamelodi Sundowns registered a convincing 3-0 win against Angola’s Petro de Luanda in the Caf Champions League, while Bidvest Wits were held to a 0-0 draw by Horoya.
In the Absa Premiership, Black Leopards and Bloemfontein Celtic were the only teams that registered wins over the weekend, while the other four matches ended in draws.

Sundowns win, but Mosimane unhappy
Sundowns opened their Group C campaign with a thrilling 3-0 win over Petro de Luanda, but coach Mosimane felt that his players chose to play pretty football instead of going for the kill and scoring more goals. But the win was enough to take the Brazilians to the top of Group C standings, as the other match between Wydad Casablanca and USM Alger ended in a draw.
Hunt left fuming after Wits draw
Bidvest Wits started their opening Caf Confederation Cup group campaign with a goalless draw against Horoya at the Dobson Stadium. Coach Gavin Hunt was not pleased with his team’s failure to convert chances and to make sure that the Students get maximum results. The good news for Hunt is that it is all square in Group C with Libya’s Al Nasr having drawn 1-1 with Djoliba in the other group match.
A star is born
Sphelele Mkhulise is slowly turning into a top competitor at Sundowns. The 23-year-old scored Sundowns’ third goal in their 3-0 win over Petro de Luanda. Mkhulise has now scored two goals and made one assist in his three appearances for the Brazilians in the Caf Champions League this season. It’s not surprising that coach Pitso Mosimane is now comparing him to Percy Tau. He is really one for the future.
SuperSport lose ground on Chiefs
SuperSport United missed out on the opportunity to close the gap on runaway leaders when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Stellenbosch FC on Saturday night. A win for Matsatsantsa would have seen them close the gap to eight points, but now it is 11 points and Chiefs have a game in hand over them.
A dull Sunday in Absa Premiership
The two Absa Premiership games that took place on Sunday failed to not only produce a winner, but no goals were scored in either game. One of these games was the KZN derby between AmaZulu and Maritzburg United. The KZN rivals only registered seven shots on target in between them for the entire game.
