Letsholonyane lauds Discovery Games

The 17th edition of Walter Sisulu Discovery Games are set time kick-start at the Nike Centre in Soweto from December 1 to December 29.

Over the years, the competition has opened doors for many youngsters and one of those is Highlands Park FC midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

The former Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United and Jomo Cosmos player believes the tournament is a great platform for aspiring footballers.

“It’s a good platform for youngsters who want to turn professional to take part in such tournaments. They prepare you to be competitive and see how far you are in terms of your readiness,” said Letsholonyane at the tournament launch in Sandton on Monday.

The competition caters for Under-17 and senior teams for both men and women. Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis was present at the launch and says she’s been attending the games in the last couple of years. And what she loves about the competition is the raw talent that is always on display.

“The Discovery games have given local women’s teams and players an opportunity to play and be recognised. You find raw talent here and I think it’s important that these players get an opportunity to play,” said the Banyana coach.
