Makaab confident of Gordinho’s Chiefs stay

Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho’s contract at Amakhosi is set to expire in June, but his representative Mike Makaab is positive that club will offer the defender a new deal.

The Benoni-born defender has been a regular member of the Chiefs squad this season and is currently the team’s joint top scorer with George Lebese on three goals each.

“Of course, it is about the money, but it’s not always about the money,” Makaab was quoted by Goal.com.

“You know, one has to understand, to be successful at a particular club, you need to have a good foundation. Lorenzo has been successful at Kaizer Chiefs. I am confident that we can finalise a deal over the next couple of weeks.”

With Makaab certain that the 22-year old will be offered a new deal, the agent says a possibility of an overseas move is also open for the youngster.

Gordinho is set to leave London today and head straight to Denmark where he will trial with Danish club Aalborg BK.

“We are always looking at possibilities for our good players. When I say our good players, it’s probably a bad expression. But we always look at possibilities for players that have shown the ability and desire to play outside of South Africa.”
