Pirates coach dreams of African silverware

Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic has revealed his desire to see the Buccaneers competing for continental silverware.

The Buccaneers were drawn against fellow Absa Premiership club Ajax Cape Town in the opening round of the Nedbank Cup fixtures, and the Swede is eager to see his side go all the way and lift the trophy.

“The brand we are carrying is huge on the continent, and we need to play on the continent. It is our ultimate target to play in the Caf Champions League or the Confederation Cup next year in order to keep our big brand all over the continent,” said the Buccaneers coach.

“In the league, you can recover, in the cup, you cannot. We shall have self-respect because we want to go all the way and win the trophy.”

Before starting their Nedbank campaign, Pirates have four league games to play, with one of them coming up against Ajax Cape Town. Micho adds that they will use the league games to prepare for the cup competition.

Pirates are in good form, having won two of their last league fixtures.

They host Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
