Nthethe leaves Sundowns, joins Chippa United

Chippa United have confirmed the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe on a one-year contract.

Nthethe joins the Chilli Boys as a free agent after Sundowns decided not to renew his contract.

“Chippa United has bolstered the defence ahead of the 2018/2019 season with the signing of accomplished defender, Thabo Nthethe,” read a statement on the Chippa website.

“Executive Chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi confirmed the player has signed a one year contract with the Port Elizabeth- based side.

“A Caf Champions League winner with Mamelodi Sundowns, Ntethe is one of the most highly respected players in the Absa Premiership owing to his cool demeanour on and off the field,” the statement added.

Mpengesi believes that Nthethe will add value to Chippa.

“Thabo (Nthethe) is a player with the right characteristics and a perfect fit for the club. He is a defender that is comfortable with the ball. He is a leader on and off the pitch. We are delighted to have him on board,” said Mpengesi.

“We have a relatively young team and we have no doubt that Thabo will share his experience positively with the rest of the squad. We welcome him to the East Cape and wish him all the best,” concluded the Chippa chairman.
