Matlaba edges closer to Pirates exit

Left back Thabo Matlaba is said to be on his way out of Orlando Pirates as he is in the last six months of his contract with the Soweto giants.

The 31-year-old’s agent, Abbie Rasimphi says Pirates have not talked to him and his client about the possibility of offering them a new contract.

Rasimphi says Matlaba wants to play regular football and they are open to the idea of the defender moving to another team if the situation at Pirates doesn’t improve.

However, he added that they will wait for Pirates to decide if they still want Matlaba or not before they start looking for a team.

“Right now, they [Pirates] haven’t said anything. His contract is expiring in June. What’s supposed to be happening is to be hunting [for a new club] because the boy wants to play football,” Rasimphi told Goal.

“We will wait and hear what they say before we can start looking for a team for him,” he concluded.

Matlaba has fallen down the pecking order at Pirates since the arrival of coach Micho Sredojevic and his assistant Rhulani Mokwena.
