It’s exciting but stressful, says Swallows coach

Moroka Swallows coach, Zeca Marques has described the feeling of being a part of the revival of the giant of South African football as both exciting and stressful.

“It is exciting; stressful. Anxiety is also there. It’s the unknown,” Marques told Phakaaathi on Monday.

Marques is the man tasked with ensuring that the seed that the team lead by Panyaza Lesufi who negotiated Swallows’ buying of Maccabi FC’s GladAfrica Championship status blooms into a beautiful flower.

“I am happy… for the supporters who have always been passionate about this club and never gave up. They finally get to see the name Moroka Swallows in professional football again. For me seeing the log standings without Moroka Swallows there didn’t make any sense at all,” he added.

The Dube Birds begin their GladAfrica Championship campaign at home at Dobsonville Stadium against TS Sporting and Marques admitted that it will be an emotional time for him. But it will not all be about him as he has to ensure his young players are aware of the responsibility and what it means to represent Swallows there.

“Playing with the Swallows name and badge is a huge responsibility. We have been talking to the players about it for the last two weeks. I think they feel it. But you don’t want to add to the pressure for the youngsters. They are looking forward to it; representing Moroka Swallows.”
