Another PSL team hit by Fifa transfer ban

Chippa United have incurred a Fifa penalty and will not be allowed to register players due to misconduct in handling the release of Tanzanian player Abdi Banda.

Fifa’s decision, released on Tuesday afternoon, follows Banda’s case against Chippa. Banda, who played for Chippa last season, was dismissed by the club in June. 

Initially, it was agreed between the two parties that compensation of R1.2 million would be paid to him. 

However, Banda is yet to see a cent of that, prompting legal action against the Eastern Cape based side.

Chippa have now been slapped with a Fifa ban that prohibits them from registering players at a national level.

This development aligns with recent penalties imposed on other PSL teams, including Royal AM, which failed to pay Samir Nurkovic R12 million, leading to a player registration ban.

Kaizer Chiefs faced a similar consequence before due to issues surrounding Hasina Adriarimarinana’s transfer fees. 

The duration of the penalty and the timeline for payment remain undisclosed in Fifa’s letter to Chippa.

Banda has since joined Richards Bay at the beginning of this season.
