Prior encounter
This meeting comes as a follow-up to their prior encounter in 2021, when Ramaphosa was the outgoing chairperson of the African Union.
Meanwhile, the South African Football Association (Safa) holds aspirations to host the Women’s 2027 Fifa World Cup.
Encouraged by their country’s recent accomplishments in Fifa women’s tournaments, Safa had initially put forward a bid for the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup, yet ultimately retracted it in December 2019.
Safa CEO Hay Mokoena said South Africa would consider bidding for 2027 after the women’s league and national team become more competitive.
This is anticipated to feature prominently on the agenda during the imminent meeting between the respective presidents.
