Blom was reportedly growing increasingly frustrated that Amakhosi failed to come up with a suitable improvement to his current Chiefs contract, set to expire at the end of this season.

And he has now decided to make the move to the US, following in the footsteps of the likes of Chiefs owner Kaizer Motaung, Jomo Sono, Kamohelo Mokotjo and George Lebese.

“It’s sad because this is the team I grew up supporting and the moments and experiences I shared with the team, like going to CAF (Champions League), losing the final, are moments I won’t forget in my life and, because I came through the development team, it adds extra meaning,” Blom told the club’s website.

EXCITED

“I am also excited because it’s a new journey for me. It’s every player’s dream to go and play abroad.

“This is always going to be home. It wasn’t my intention to leave this way but I think, at the same time, I have been a team player. I have been working hard for the team. At this moment I had to think about my future and my family – to put them first – and also my growth as an individual and as a player.”

Now 23, Blom has already made nearly 100 appearances for Chiefs, and it will be fascinating to see how he progresses in the MLS.
