Chiefs legend backs embattled Steve Komphela

Kaizer Chiefs legend Neil Tovey has come to coach Steve Komphela's defence after Amakhosi fans threw objects at him and the players after their 3-0 loss to Chippa United.

Angry fans, who found it hard to stomach the heavy defeat, threw objects at Komphela and the players as they went into the tunnel at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Tovey believes it is unfair to place all the blame on Komphela for the club’s poor performance and reminded the Chiefs fans that the club is still in the running for the Nedbank Cup.

“It is not a good thing. Coaches are trying their best and a player misses a chance right in front of goals and the coach has to take the blame, you know. I think it is a bit of frustration that Chiefs have not won anything in three years, but Steve knows his job and he must continue to try. He still has the cup (Nedbank Cup] to come,” Tovey told Limpopo Sport Zone.

“It is frustrating that the coach has to bear the brunt of players not doing their job.”
