Jonevret happy with Pirates display

Orlando Pirates head coach Kjell Jonevret is happy with his team's win against Chippa United.

The Buccaneers beat the Chilli Boys 2-1 at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, with Thamsanqa Gabuza and Thabo Matlaba scoring the goals for Jonevret’s team. Paseka Mako scored the consolation goal for Chippa.

“Well, I am happy with how we played in the first half because I think we attacked well and also defended well. We did not give them a lot of chances,” said Jonevret after the game.

“We scored a beautiful goal, but I think we should have scored one or two more goals. But we made a mistake on the stroke of half-time and they made it 1-1, and it changed the complexion of the game.”

“If we had gone into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead then in the second half, we could have played smart and play on the counter. In the end, I am happy with the three points.

“We have now increased the gap between us and a few teams in the bottom half on the league table and we also moved closer to the top half teams.

“Overall, it was a good week for us having recorded a draw (against Baroka FC) and a victory. So, yes, we are on our way,” he concluded.

Pirates next game is against Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Thursday.
