Komphela responds to Khuzwayo’s plea

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he will not scold goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo for wanting to start ahead of Itumeleng Khune in some games.

Khuzwayo had hoped to start in goals for Amakhosi against his for club AmaZulu in his home time of Umlazi on Wednesday night, with the Amakhosi’s second choice goalkeeper making his wish known on Twitter. However, it was Khune who was in goals for Chiefs as they drew 0-0 with Usuthu.

“He is a great keeper. Brilliant is with us, there is a lot of talk going on, the same thing happened with Molangoane. Should anything happen to Khune, Brilliant is ready, I still have Bvuma. When you are coach you know it will happen, people always bring these things, I just have to confirm that he is with us,” said Komphela.

“You cannot debate with everyone’s opinion, sometimes people do things and say things out of anger and frustration, if you were to look at them based on how they respond then you are not matured enough. Leadership is about maturity, and maintaining your level of dignity and respect to everyone. Brilliant is a good keeper – that we have to acknowledge.”
