Malawian player robbed in Johannesburg

Malawian and former Jomo Cosmos midfielder Micium Mhone was reportedly robbed in Johannesburg this past weekend.

Mhone, who was with another person, was allegedly attacked by six thugs and robbed of his cash and cellphone in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The midfielder confirmed the news with Nyasa Times.

“The incident happened around 6pm along the End Street. They stabbed me on the hand, but my colleague is the one who was severely injured. We went to hospital and received treatment, and I am feeling much better now,” said Mhone.

“I just thank God I survived because I could have been dead by now.”

Mhone is now a free agent after he was released by Cosmos after the expiry of his contract.

The Flames midfielder will be returning to Malawi to play for his former club Blue Eagles in the forthcoming Super League season.

General secretary for the Malawi Police Super League side Blue Eagles, Ulemu Kaluwa, confirmed Mhone’s return to Blue Eagles.

“It is true that Jomo Sono has cleared Micium Mhone, and he is now a free agent. He is our player and a police officer in the Malawi Police Service, so we will welcome him back to offer his services at Blue Eagles. You know he is a good player in terms of attacking and we are hopeful that his return will help us to do well in the league this season,” explained Kaluwa.
