Mammila declares himself 10 steps ahead of other PSL coaches

Chippa United’s coach, Morgan Mammila, isn’t one to sit around waiting for others, especially the media, to shower him with praise.

In fact, he’s quite vocal about it. Mammila has expressed his dissatisfaction with the media, claiming that they don’t give him the recognition he deserves as a coach.
He firmly believes that he’s among the top eight coaches in the highly competitive DStv Premiership.
“Sometimes you guys (in the media) don’t judge fairly. You look at how Chippa plays, not all the teams are playing like us.
“It means I’m 10 steps ahead of other coaches,” claimed the former club official turned coach.
“There is no turning point. I just started and this is me. I’m a top-eight material, whether you like it or not… And the stats confirm that.”
Mammila’s confidence isn’t baseless. His team currently occupies the seventh position in the Premiership log table, having secured 13 points from nine games.
What’s more, Mammila isn’t shying away from challenges. He openly stated his desire to face off against South Africa’s ‘big three’ teams in the upcoming Carling Knockout competition.
Mammila wanted ‘limping’ Sundowns in Cup game
He was however bitterly disappointed, his team were drawn against another hard working side, Stellenbosch FC in the first round of the cup competition.
“To tell the truth, I am disappointed. I thought I would find Sundowns limping after losing in the final,” Mammila said after the draw.

Sundowns were beaten by Pirates in the MTN8 final last weekend. “If not Sundowns, I thought I would get Pirates, if not them, then Chiefs.
“I am very disappointed because playing those three teams at Nelson Mandela Bay, we are talking about more than 30 000 people in the stadium.
“I am one of them. I enjoy these kinds of games, but we are playing against a hard-working Stellenbosch team.
“They work hard and are well coached. We have made it clear that we are not an easy team to play against… Like it or not, you don’t come to Chippa running (blind-folded).”
