Mdaka vows to fight to the end for Gallants to survive relegation

‘We will try and fight until the end of the league in every game that we play,’ said the Gallants coach.

Marumo Gallants head coach Raymond Mdaka has vowed to fight all the way to the end in his quest to try to save the club from being relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Gallants are currently one of the contenders for relegation, with the club having spent most of their time at bottom of the DStv Premiership standings in the last few weeks.

But, the Limpopo side has been able to turn their season around in the last seven league games, winning three games and registering four draws.

That saw them collect 13 points in the process and subsequently move off the bottom of the standings, as they now sit in 13th spot on the log after 27 games – they have 28 points after playing to a goalless draw with SuperSport United in a midweek league clash played at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“It was a difficult game (against United), especially because of their style of play. They are good on set-pieces, they play long balls and they wanted to catch us on counter-attacks. So, we had to cover a bigger distance in dealing with the long balls. It didn’t allow us to keep the ball on the ground and play the way we normally do,” said Mdaka.

“But we are happy with the point and I think the boys did well under difficult conditions. A point will make a difference obviously and we will try and fight until the end of the league in every game that we play.”

Gallants are currently four points ahead of bottom of the log side Maritzburg United, with three and four games remaining repetitively.

But Bahlabane Ba Ntwa are yet to be out of danger in the battle to escape relegation, with anything still possible at this stage of the campaign, looking at the remaining matches and the points difference.
