Phungwayo facing uncertain future at Pirates

Word coming out of the orlando Pirates camp is that Patrick Phungwayo is set to be released by the club.

Earlier in June, Phakaaathi reported that Phungwayo is seeking a move away from the club following a lack of game time.

However, it is unclear which club the defender will be joining and the team did not put him on the transfer list they released earlier in August which included the likes of Roger Majaja, Lindokuhle Mtshali, Sello Japhta, Maselaelo Seanego and Donald Mukondolela.

Recent update coming from our source at the club says there are negotiations going between the player and management, hence the team has not said anything about Phungwayo leaving as they still feel the need to keep him at the club.

Pirates have handed Phungwayo’s number 21 jersey to new signing Thamsanqa Sangweni.

“It is a complicated issue this one, Phungwayo really wants to leave, but the team is not willing to let him go. I don’t understand why because they even gave his jersey number to another player.

“But there have been talks between him and the management of the club. Another thing that I am not sure about is which club he will be joining,” said the source.
