Numerous goalkeepers have been tested, but none have proven to be the right fit.

Kaizer Chiefs are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper to reinforce their squad due to a glaring shortage in this department.

With Itumeleng Khune’s decline in form over the past few years, the team has struggled to find a capable replacement.

Numerous goalkeepers have been tested since, but none have proven to be the right fit. Some even viewed Daniel Akpeyi more favourably.

However, the team decided against retaining the Nigerian goalkeeper, though the exact reasons remain undisclosed.

Akpeyi has since joined and has been performing well for Moroka Swallows.

In their quest for a goalkeeper, Chiefs have set their sights on Motema Pembe’s goalkeeper who was recommended by former Amakhosi keeper Eshele Botende.

Botende, known for his exceptional skills between the posts, played for Chiefs back in the day, and earned the admiration of fans for his commendable performances.

Discussions have already commenced with Motema Pembe about the potential acquisition of one of their talented young goalkeepers.

Chiefs are keen on securing his services when the player transfer window reopens in January.

The team is acutely aware of the goalkeeper predicament and the urgency to address it. As of now, there’s a consensus that finding a better alternative is proving to be a tough challenge.

Petersen not doing justice

Brandon Petersen, who has been the starting goalkeeper this season, has faced criticism for recurring errors that suggest negligence and carelessness.

His mistakes came to the forefront in the DStv Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns and were repeated in the MTN8 against the same team.

Chiefs’ acting coach, Cavin Johnson, stood by Petersen, offering support and understanding during the recent game against Arrows over the weekend where he made another blunder.

And as reported by Phakaaathi earlier this week, Peterson has raised concerns among Chiefs officials due to his repeated errors that have proved costly for the team.
