Wits reject Pirates offer for Hlatshwayo

Phakaaathi has learnt that Orlando Pirates have had their offer for defender Thulani Hlatshwayo rejected by Bidvest Wits.

Pirates, who conceded 40 goals in 30 matches last season, are said to have identified the Wits captain as a possible solution to their leaky defence.

However, a source close to Wits told Phakaaathi that unless Pirates made an offer Wits could not resist, the Students said he was not for sale.

“I heard that Pirates made an offer for Tyson, but they were told that he was not for sale. He is the captain of the team, so unless Pirates make an offer Wits could not resist, Hlatshwayo will remain with the Students next season,” added the source.

Hlatshwayo, who grew up supporting Pirates, was quoted in May in the media as saying he would listen to offers at the end of last season.

But with him still contracted to Wits until June 2019, Pirates or any other team interested in him would have to pay big to take him away from the Students.
