Pitso to field fringe players against Chippa

Mamelodi Sundowns are away to Chippa United on Tuesday evening at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in an Absa Premiership encounter.

Downs coach Pitso Mosimane says he will give some of his regular players a rest ahead of the Caf Super Cup meeting between Caf Confederation champions TP Mazembe this Saturday.

“I think there will be many changes against Chippa. You know what happened when I made changes against Maritzburg United at the beginning of the season, I am still unhappy with the two points that we lost because I had to play a different team because I was worried about the score. Against Chippa we will have guys like Yannick Zakri, Teko Modise, Thabo Nthethe and Kennedy Mweene. So we will give other guys a chance, Asavela Mbekile, they have to play.

“If they have to compete at all fronts and for four cups, everybody must come to the party. I can’t guarantee points, but I trust my team and I believe they can bring the results because that is the way it is going to be – it is going to be tough for everyone,” said Mosimane.

Mosimane added that he believes fellow giants in the PSL have what it takes to compete in continental football.

“What would be nice for me is to remove the Chippa game, and then we have a nice match with no excuses of travelling to East London, injuries and fatigue. You must also understand that we are coming from Bloemfontein. So it would be nice.

“I think Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United should not complain about that. This year we have all agreed and that we all made statements that we have enough ammunition for continental football and local football. So we can’t complain about that,” said the former Bafana Bafana mentor.
