No coach, no worries, says Carnell

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Bradley Carnell refuses to concede that there is pressure at the club as they are currently without a permanent head coach.

Veteran coach Augusto Palacios is on call once again as he is currently holding the fort at Pirates on an interim basis following the unceremonious resignation of Muhsin Ertugral in November last year.

The pressure is visible at Pirates, as they are hanging on a thread from being dragged down into the relegation zone.

Carnell told Phakaaathi that despite being 10th on 18 points, the Sea Robbers are not sinking.

“No, not at all, I think Palacios is doing a fantastic job. He is doing things about his way and his experience. The boys have been responding very well [to his philosophy] and they have been putting in good effort.

“The players seem to have turned over a new leaf, and the dedication has been there, the discipline has been there and we are looking forward to the next games,” he said.

Carnell also revealed that Ezikamagebula’s new signings might not feature in Wednesday’s Absa Premiership match away to Platinum Stars due to fitness concerns.

“Some have been announced a couple of days ago. It has been a bit of a process getting them onto the field because of different protocols. We have to prepare them from a fitness level. We just have to see who is going to be available for the first match … but I am sure by the Mamelodi Sundowns game we will have everyone available.”

Amabhakabhaka travel to the capital to face the defending Absa Premiership champions on Saturday afternoon.
