The former Bloemfontein Celtic captain’s contract is set to expire at the end of June and Sundowns are yet to offer him a new contract.
Nthethe faced a similar situation last year when the two-and-a-half-year contract he signed when he joined Sundowns from Celtic in January 2014 was due to expire in June.
Sundowns then exercised the one-year option they had on his contract, thereby keeping him for one more season.
But with the 32-year-old failing to cement his place in the starting line-up, word is that he could find himself without a contract at the end of the season.
Nthethe has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Sundowns this season, making six starts and four substitute appearances in the process.
