Pirates a tough nut to crack, says Madida

Swallows have only recorded two wins, seven draws and seven losses.

In their quest to move away from the relegation zone, Swallows FC assistant coach Fani Madida has welcomed a point earned in their 1-1 draw against a “tough” Orlando Pirates at the Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday.

The Birds have been struggling this season, with some poor results leaving the club stranded at the bottom half of the DStv Premiership standings.

Having played 16 games, Swallows have only recorded two wins, seven draws and seven losses. The Birds are in position 13on the league table after accumulating 13 points, just three points ahead of bottom placed Baroka FC, who are on 10 points from 15 matches.

Madida, however, says the club had a good chance to take maximum points against the Buccaneers, but they will be looking to do much better in their next games to try and get out of the danger zone.

“I think it was a good point, but there were times where I thought we could have grabbed the winning goal. But it wasn’t to be, we will soldier on again and try to get a point or three in the next two games away in Cape Town against Cape Town City and at home against Golden Arrows. Pirates are a very tough team. Hard nut to crack, they work very hard and they mix with their counter attacking game,” said Madida, who is a Kaizer Chiefs legend after the game.

“We managed to stop them from playing what they wanted to play because we were always offensive. So, the best way for us to defend is to play offensive, that’s why we managed to get a point and like I said, we created enough chances to win this game, but it’s work in progress.”
