Riveiro confident that Pirates will clinch second spot

The Buccaneers next face Chippa United away from home.

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro believes that his team has what it takes to win their remaining games to challenge for the second spot in the DStv Premiership.

Riveiro’s charges got a fourth win in a row after registering 2-0 victory against Richards Bay on Saturday.

Monnapule Saleng and Terrence Dzvukamanja made sure that Bucs got closer to that cherished second-place finish.

Riveiro was happy with his charges after they recorded a win against the Natal Rich Boys, who started the season very well.

“We knew that they were going to be a difficult team, and the way things went, it wasn’t going to be easy.
“Richards Bay are a very good team and they gave us a very tough time. Our players had to give their all in order for us to get maximum points,” said Riveiro.

“I’m just happy that we got the full points and we are a step closer to our main goal. There are still many games to go, but we will keep on fighting and working very hard to try and improve.”

Pirates came into this game as favourites, especially since Richards Bay were on a bad run of form. Man-of-the-Match Thembinkosi Lorch shared his coach’s sentiments on how the game went.

“We started very well, we should have buried more of our chances. However, the most important thing is that we got maximum points. That’s what we needed,” said Lorch.

“We gave our all, we work very hard at training and our coaches try their best to make sure that we are always ready for every game. What is important is our next game…we always want to improve.”

The win took the Buccaneers to second spot on the log with 40 points after 24 games.
