Motshwari open to SuperSport move and reunion with Hunt

Motshwari joined Pirates from Wits back in 2018.

A source in the Orlando Pirates camp has revealed that Ben Motshwari expected his situation at the club an is happy to leave the team at the end of the season.

Motshwari is in the last few months of his contract and the Pirates management have made it clear they won’t be renewing his stay with the team.

The midfielder has already been linked with SuperSport United, a team where he is likely to reunite with his former coach Gavin Hunt.

According to the source, Motshwari believes a move to SuperSport will be good for him and he reckons he will get plenty of game time at the club as he has a good relationship with Hunt.

“Ben knows what is going on, there is no beating around the bush about his situation. His contract is ending and the club is not really interested in extending his stay. The management and the technical staff already have plans for next season, they know what they need and Ben is not part of the plans,” said the insider.

“But he is okay with everything, he knows that he served Pirates really well and if they don’t want him he can’t do anything about it. There is no way that he can stay at the club and not get as much game time as he would like. He thinks playing for Hunt will be good for him plus they have a very good understanding. SuperSport is a good team and they have a very good squad, he will fit in nicely there.”

Motshwari was brought to Pirates back in 2018 following his great performances for the now dissolved Bidvest Wits, where he was coached by Hunt.

The 32-years old Randfontein born midfielder has not been a regular for Riveiro’s side but has made 16 DStv Premiership appearances this season.

Motshwari is fighting for a place in the line-up against the likes of Thabang Monare, Miguel Timm, who have been largely preferred as starters for the Pirates coach.
