Sentencing in Sundowns case postponed

The verdict in the case against Mamelodi Sundowns for fielding ineligible defender Wayne Arendse has been postponed.

The Premier Soccer League says it will announce a new date for the sentencing to be heard.

Sundowns were found guilty for fielding an ineligible player in a match against Bidvest Wits in a league tie.

Arendse was fielded to replace a teammate who sustained an injury while warming up for the Wits game. Arendse was not in the 18-men match day squad set to take on Wits.

The defending Absa Premiership champions are in Egypt to honour the second-leg clash against Al Ahly in Alexandria.

“Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Wayne Arendse have requested a postponement of this afternoon’s Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee proceedings‚” read a statement from the PSL. “A new date will be determined upon their return from Egypt early next week.”
