Swallows chairman adamant Truter will be back at the Birds

'I can tell you he (Truter) will continue with the team until the end of the season,' said David Mogashoa.

Swallows FC chairman David Mogashoa insists that Brandon Truter will be the club’s head coach at least until the end of this season, and that the leave he is currently on is only temporary.

Mogashoa confirmed to Phakaaathi on Wednesday that Truter has taken time off following the side’s poor start to the season, and that he will miss two games against Cape Town City – in the DStv Premiership and MTN8 semifinals – as well as the Premiership clash with Mamelodi Sundowns on October 3.

Assistant coach Simo Dladla will take charge of the Birds for those three matches.

It is unusual for a coach to disappear from the touchline in the early stages of a season and return a couple of weeks later, but Mogashoa is adamant Truter will be back.

“Swallows always goes against history. When Truter won the GladAfrica Championship people said the coach was going to be fired. In two weeks he will be back at Swallows,” said Mogashoa.

“People are like scavengers waiting for people to die,” he added in what seemed to be a dig at those now chasing Truter’s job.

“There is one negative story about a coach and people are applying for his job.

“We have a coach, we don’t need another coach … I can tell you he (Truter) will continue with the team until the end of the season.”

The Swallows chairman explained that he would be talking to Truter in the meantime to work out why Swallows have started the season so poorly.

The Birds have already lost as many Premiership games this season, just four matches in, as they did in the whole of the 2020/21 campaign.

“We have a very strong squad and can’t come back with only one or two goals, we will have a look and move forward,” added Mogashoa.

“We only had one good game, against Pirates in the MTN8 (quarterfinals), against Royal AM (in the league) we just won by luck.”
